California

Several weeks ago, one of my teachers sent out an email for a call-for-entries for a exhibition titled The Dark Side with the theme being all night photography. The show is going to take place next weekend (opening night being October 22, 2011) in Los Angeles, California and even though I'm not even remotely near that area I decided to submit three pieces to see if they would get into the show. Two days ago I was informed that out of 46 pieces being chosen nationwide I would be having two of my images appearing in the show! Even though I took these two images about a year ago, I thought I would post them here with the excitement of them getting into the show. Enjoy

Photo 2

Well after the better part of the afternoon editing, this is another image from the high fashion shoot. It's actually going to be the last of the series when displayed, I just haven't edited the middle image yet. The first image is it before any editing, followed by another version with the majority of the editing already taken place. I'll be wrapping this one up on Tuesday, and I'll post the final piece at that time.

High Fashion photo 1

This was my first shoot using a model aside from a classmate of mine and I don't think it could have gone any better. This shoot in general was the most fun and exciting one I have done in a long time and has produced some of my favorite work to date. I'll start off by posting the first image in my series which is probably my favorite so far. Enjoy :)

High Fashion

So over the past two weeks I have been working on a High Fashion shoot for my class, except that instead of the traditional high fashion photograph our teacher wanted us to add a Dadaist twist. Dadaism was the movement where artists challenged and question 'Shat is art?' and subsequently, 'What is fashion, or beauty?' So basically, our assignment was to do a high fashion piece with a un-traditional, avant-garde, approach. It just so happens that the week before she assigned this project I had been experimenting with my camera in my pool (with my underwater camera housing) and thought that a 'drowning-model' photo shoot would be really cool to attempt some time. So instantly, I knew what I would be doing for this assignment, it was just a matter of figuring out the lighting (I wanted to shoot this at night). This assignment will be a series of three photographs, which I am currently editing. I'm about to post one which is done being edited, and the two others are hopefully soon to follow.
